This journal explores the implementation of Blockchain technology enabled by the InterPlanetary File System (IPFS) in the development of smart cities. Blockchain, initially introduced through Bitcoin in 2008, has since evolved across various sectors, including smart contracts, permissioned blockchains, hyperledger, and Ethereum.
The concept of a smart city aims to enhance operational efficiency, facilitate information sharing with users, and improve citizen welfare through information and communication technologies (ICT). However, the rapid growth of smart cities presents challenges in ensuring secure, reliable, and efficient data exchange between devices and entities within the ecosystem.
This paper explores the potential integration of Blockchain with IPFS to support smart city infrastructure. The proposed architecture is simulated in a controlled environment to evaluate its performance. The journal also discusses the challenges that need to be addressed for widespread implementation of this system.
